General Secretary of Indian Bodybuilding Federation Amit Swami has been elected the President of South Asian Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation (SABBF). Electoral Congress of SABBF declared him President at Thimphu, Bhutan during the 8th South Asian Men's Bodybuilding Championship. The officials of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bhutan Bodybuilding Federations participated & voted in this election.
H.R.H Prince of Bhutan Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, Prime Minister of Bhutan H.E Jigmi Y Thinley, Secretary General of World Bodybuilding Federation Datuk Paul Chua & the family friend of Amit Swami WWE Super star Hollywood Film Actor Dalip Singh Rana (The Great Khali) congratulated him for this achievement.
Mr Jagjit Singh of Delhi won the gold in 75 kg & A Boby Singh of Manipur won the gold in 80 Kg as well as the title of Mr South Asia 2011. Amit Swami & Mr Tashi Phunpsho (Cabinet Secretary of Bhutan Govt.) awarded the title to Boby Singh of India. The Championship took place from 1st to 5th June at Thimphu Bhutan.
Afghanistan won the team championship, Pakistan came of 2nd place in team event and India came on 3rd place in team championship
The 9th South Asian Championship is scheduled to be held at the Capitol of Maldives, Male in 2012
