Varaha
Awtar (Dev-Dhal) Jungle is a thick Forest near Sangrah Town on Sangrah-Renukaji
(Nahan) Road. Total area of Varahawtar forest is about 40 Hectare and the
Jungle is full of Baan, Buras and Devdar trees. The Varaha Awtar Temple is
situated on the Top of the Hill and this is the single Temple of Lord Varaha in
Sirmour District. There are 5 Ancient
Stone Idols of Varahawtar (Suarde) in
Temple which are told about 350 years old. There is a great Destruction to the Forest
due to Unscientific Lime Stone Mines. Varaha Avatar, the
third incarnation among the 10 Dashavatara of Lord Vishnu, is in the form of a
Boar. The Lord appeared as a boar to defeat Hiranyaksha, a demon, who had taken
the Earth and carried it to the bottom of the cosmic ocean. The avatar of
Varaha signifies the restoration of the Earth from a pralaya (deluge) and the
formation of a new kalpa (cosmic cycle). Varaha Purana, one of the major
eighteen Mahapuranas, describes about the Varaha incarnation of God Vishnu,
and also about the rescue of the Prithvi. Varaha is depicted in animal
form bearing a boar's head on a man's body. He has four arms, two of which hold
the wheel and conch-shell while the other two hold a mace, sword or lotus. The
tusks of the boar hold the Earth. Sangrah is a Beautiful Town, Green Valley and Sub-Division of District
Sirmour, Himachal Pradesh. Sangrah Town is about 358 K.M. from Delhi, 161 K.M.
from Shimla, 152 K.M. from Chandigarh, 65 K.M. from Rajgarh, 63 K.M. from Nahan
and 25 K.M. from Renuka Ji (By Road). Government Degree
